above is a link to an interview with mary mcdonnell - in which she honestly comes across as totally presidential material. and i mean that in a good/idealistic way. she’s a good person and i admire her.

and this is a link to the bsg tech blog, which is written by the show’s production illustrator and the scientific advisor. usually, when i think of a ’science advisor’ for a tv show, i don’t actually picture someone who knows a whole lot about science. that’s because most science-related entertainment doesn’t really involve real science. it involves technobabble and special effects. but the science editor for bsg turns out to be this bigtime scientist for nasa, among other illustrious credentials. he dabbles in jet propulsion, planetary evolution, cassini, the physics of light and stars - and the rest of that beautiful, cerebral mythology. so his answers to the super-nerdy technical questions fans ask about the show are really quite fascinating, as well as thoughtfully written. ever wonder how the cylons hacked adama’s non-networked system?

-in celebration of my last hours/days (internets? can you hear me? COMPLETE MY FRACKING DOMAIN REGISTRATION.) with a wp-hosted blog, i’m using theron parlin’s lovely “benevolence” theme, for a change. i really like regulus, but dammit, i wanted a fucking sidebar editor, and, well, i really like the pretty grass.
-has anyone heard of joomla? it’s an open-source CMS editor that’s free and, at least on the surface, light years ahead of any of the regurgitated web 2.0 tripe that’s popular right now. i haven’t had much of a chance to play around with it on my test domain yet, but my boyfriend (who gets paid to know about the internet in a Highly Technical sense) and i conducted some preliminary Online Research, and it looks totally solid - in our imperious opinion. it’s streamlined and well-documented and customizable beyond your wildest dreams. and the organization is like a million simultaneous orgasms of obsessive-compulsive ecstasy. it makes sense to non-geeks. it’s intuitive. it’s attractive. why hasn’t it received any press? if this thing actually runs as well as it looks like it will - i might be in love.
-i bought more octagon plates today.-the wordpress-hosted blog has stopped responding to my html commands. i can’t make links. i can’t format. i just don’t understand. AIRLOCK!!

i downloaded ecto, a desktop blogging client suggested by the folks at wordpress and the illustrious wesley crusher. i used it once successfully, but now every function i ask it to perform (like “launch the app,” or “edit an entry”) causes it to crash and burn.
ecto, i see an AIRLOCK in your future.
